The Squid And The Whale
This movie is really for everyone; especially those who come from a
product of divorce. It deals with life in a very real way...so real it
hurts. You can tell that this story is autobiographical but that is not
to say that the writing is easy. It comes from the heart. It dares to
show a divorce and growing up in a harsh and real light. The things that
transpire make you cringe...not because they are grotesque or unheard of
but you too were there. Noah Baumbach comes clean and tells on himself
and his parents and sibling whereas the majority of us deal with our
dysfunctionality on the down low. The movie is a tour de force for Jeff
Daniels. Every scene he is in pretty much followed by laughter of the
audience. Owen Kline and Jesse Eisenberg are two young actors to watch.
Go see this film. Support greatness. Leave mediocrity for cable and dvd
rental. At times we are all philistines but in this case everyone shoulr
rise above and embrace this master stroke.
